Julie Martin-Carter / mezzo soprano
Julie Martin-Carter (Mezzo-soprano) is originally from South Africa moving to Germany in the early 1990’s to pursue her post-graduate studies in classical singing.
After establishing her professional operatic career in London she has also worked in Dublin, Cardiff and Edinburgh for Opera Ireland, Welsh National Opera, Scottish Opera, Opera on a Shoestring, Opera Alba and the Anna Livia International Opera Festival as a chorister as well as performing smaller roles. Recent highlights have included an ambitious 2014 production of the rarely staged Moses und Aron (Schoenberg) for Welsh National Opera, which included performances at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Roles include Auntie for Scottish Opera’s 2015 production of Jenufa, Cherubino in The Marriage of Figaro, Mercedes in Carmen, Hansel in Hansel & Gretel, Second Lady in the Magic Flute, Mistress of the Novices in Suor Angelica, Nella in Gianni Schicchi, Young Seamstress in Il Tabarro, Suzy in La Rondine, Second Witch in Dido & Aeneas, Maid in Manon and Seamstress in Don Pasquale.
Julie is also an accomplished recitalist and regularly performs Lieder and oratorio with various choral societies in Scotland and with Coro Alba. Recordings include the Rosslyn Motet & Songs of the Chartres Labyrinth (Thomas Mitchell).
