",,,And the upfront, in-your-face acoustic suited the style of the Fejes Quartet, which is very much a go-for-it, risk-taking outfit - as was clear from their hair-raising account, possibly the fastest I've heard, of the violent second movement of the Shostakovich.

And, in a concert that I perceived very much as a continuum, the same energy that later manically powered the Shostakovich catapulted the Haydn - which came out of the bottle like a champagne cork - into effervescent action."

Michael Tumelty, Music Critic

".... the easeful homogenous glow of the ensemble, and the rosy resonance of the acoustics. There was excitement too, in the harsh astringencies of the central movement, and an inevitable acceptance as the final movement drew to its melancholic close....
No lack of heat in Beethoven's G major Quartet, op 18 no 2, though, expressed here with all the crystalline luminosity necessary to make a convincing, logical case for this early quartet. ... Its delicacy and gentle surprises were bound as a neat, subtle and scintillating package."

Ken Walton, Scotsman, February 2013
Edinburgh Dovecot

" ...they do not lack the rapport and mutual understanding required to excel in the more intimate circumstances of chamber music. These four works must be as taxing to play as any in the repertoire, and they project them with all the necessary virtuosity and with total conviction. Highly recommended!"

“ Assured readings from the Fejes Quartet are enhanced by spacious yet immediate sound."

Fejes Quartet / string quartet

Formed in 2006, the Fejes Quartet first came to know each other initially as members of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. A chance opportunity to work together as a quartet established a musical collaboration of the highest quality. Following their first concerts, the quartet quickly gained a reputation for their lively performances and engaging approach, resulting in invitations to perform at many music societies throughout Scotland.

The Quartet made a highly successful tour of Northern Scotland in January 2011 where they promoted their debut CD and in July 2011 they were quartet in residence at the ”Les Heures Musicales” festival in the South of France, giving a number of concerts, the highlight of which was a performance of Schubert’s C major Cello quintet in which they were joined by the great cellist Raphael Wallfisch.

The Fejes Quartet currently has residencies at both the Glasgow Art Club and The Mackintosh Church in Glasgow. Not only confined to the concert hall and music club environment the Fejes quartet is well known for its versatility. They have recently been involved in a number of successful projects, working together with Enterprise Music Scotland, providing workshops on quartet playing in schools and a collaborative project with the percussion duo Owen and Olly. This will continue, with a number of projects planned for Spring 2015.

The quartet have toured in Hungary and Italy, both of which have resulted in invitations to return.

In June 2014 work was completed on a project to record the four string quartets of the English composer Christopher Wright, the fourth of which was commissioned by and written for them.

In July they made their fourth visit to the ”Les Heures Musicales” festival in the South of France.
